My current query for LOW ROAD uses the word "vampire" five times in one paragraph. I'm not entirely sure how to cut most of them out.
Working on a WIP and happened to read over a couple of sentences. Meant to type "avoiding the puddle"...instead typed "avoiding the pudding"...and trust me, he's NOT avoiding pudding...
Typo of the day: Meant to write that their hoods covered their faces and wrote feces instead. There's an interesting visual...
AightballWell, you know, privacy and all that... ;)

Slush pile tip: This won't make or break your piece, but it's not "OK" or "o.k." It's "okay." Just one of those things that alerts me that you're a novice writer.
jadahYes! Alright vs. all right is another one, but that one doesn't bother me as much. So many rules, though! I can see how it's confusing.

Charlee ValeActually, since the origin of the term is an acronym, 'OK' is the correct usage. 'Okay,' is kind of like writing 'ugh' or 'grrr'--it's a visual representation of a sound, and that is why it is accepted.

jadahGood Old Kinderhook. Every editor I've worked with corrected it from OK to okay. Though I'm sure everyone has their own personal preference, as with all things.

Am I being helpful in the Query Critiques subforum, or am I just startling people with my Wall of Text bombings?

sharpegirlIf you've only "felt" you've read something, you probably should go back and actually verify it actually says whatever you "feel" it says. As well as verifying the validity of that source of info. There is a lot of misinformation out there about publishing.

jadahDitto the double check your source tip. I spoke of Mandy Hubbard in one of my blogs and she was quick to tell me the information I supplied was incorrect. Granted, she told me I gave good advice, but I'd never been so embarrassed! Always double check.
