Spoke with an agent today. What I find puzzling are the vast differences with preferred writing programs. I prefer using Pages, since my company has used Apple everything since 1996. So what should I commit my writings to? MS Word? Scrivener? Pages? what would I do if I wrote my Novel, 250 pages of it, on Pages, only to find an agent who prefers Word 2010? Obviously I'm a guppy. I've yet to be published. But I am a business person, and for over 22 years. Moving forward with minimal in...
LucidDreamerPreferred program is WORD. Scrivener will convert to WORD, and usually any recent version of WORD is fine.

mbalYou can export anything in Pages into a .doc format, the format used by Microsoft Word.

The Other Side, coming to Amazon early April!
Really confused about this whole getting published thing. Been writing forever but never took it seriously until now.
Received a full request from an agent :)

Just finished a new work and will post my query soon! In the mean time, I'll be beta-reading your queries!
I am done! After many attempts to change my query...I haven't gotten anywhere with it. I redo it, someone tells me its confusing. I delete things, they say add more detail. I'm beyond frustrated. All I want to do is become a writer and this query letter is keeping me from it.
mzbritney12Goodness, I'm so sorry to hear your frustration. Trust me, I get it! Let me know if you want me to look over it, or if you need advice/help with something in particular.

MiggieI've changed my query letter so many times, and I've received requests and rejections for all of the versions. I think go with the query that most accurately reflects your book and the way you write. If you are trying to hook an agent by playing up an aspect that isn't pivotal to either, the agents who request probably aren't the right ones for you. I hope this helps :-)

KeeppositiveI,too, have changed my query multiple times with no more requests than the one request from my first query :( I agree with Miggie: go with the one that best sounds like your book. Take a break from looking at it, review it with fresh eyes and pick the one YOU think best!

Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?
