As I find myself finishing almost every post with the phrase I might as well sig it:

I was approached by a young man here in San Diego who had a really good idea (his opinion) and wanted me to help him write his novel, well, actually write it because he was not so good with the spelling thing. I told him I am busy writing a book already under contract and had serious deadlines, so I had no time for him. He scoffed, sent me three subsequent emails and said when I wanted to get serious about writing a best seller that I should drop my other work and finish his novel. Oh, and could I also write his screenplay? I called his mother, whom I have known for forty years, and she apologized. He hasn't called since. THEY EXIST!!!!!!!!!!!!

What makes this funny is that I can remember being at that stage in my life, thinking I knew everything. The steak knife analogy has me wondering if I might want to do a little more surgical practice before I query here. Then again, that's why I came! Surgeons, please, for the love of all that is literary, help!

This is so funny! I needed a laugh. There is so much in this piece that rings true for so many reasons. Thanks for pinpointing my location in a writers life. Not sure I was ready for this, but it's good.

EM Delaney,
Thanks for letting people know you didn't make the video (as creative credit is always due), however you put it in a place for me to find it and I loved it. I've already shared with another friend who writes and we both agree it is brilliant! I also agree with the comment above that the pinning for newbies like me is a good idea.
