So...yeah...setting your tale in the Midwest? Let me help! I'm from Iowa and have lived in Nebraska before. I've also visited most of the Midwest. We're not as backward as the media thinks out here =).

No joke! I've been asked if we have paved roads in Iowa. For the record, yes. Yes we do.

Heh, I was born in Cedar Rapids, IA; now living in Wisconsin (one of the most haunted places in the world... and alcoholic).

I recall seeing a list of "fun things to do in Iowa". I believe number two was, "Go cruisin' past the Dairy Queen in a really bitchin tractor."

*laughs* My sister and I used to cruise the "strip" in Cherokee (hwy 59 runs N/S through town) in my parent's old car. We'd go to DQ, get a treat, and then cruise the strip for a while. It never failed...we'd drive south, turn around, and as we were heading back north, the DQ drive up was PACKED. We shared a laugh everytime.

I'm from Southwest Missouri, still a lot of gravel roads down here, but we have indoor plumbing and only six fingers and toes per appendage. Grew up on a farm in Central Illinois, so if you need to know something about rural Midwestern life, I've got it down pat.

Outside of being in different states, I don't know that there's a lot of differences between central illinois and central Iowa =). *it's all corn fields*(
