Hey folks, so I have two different cover options to choose from, but I'm having a tough time deciding. Here is a blurb about the book, and two different options:

Yancy Lazarus is having a bad day: There’s a bullet lodged in his butt cheek, his face looks like the site of a demolition derby, and he’s been saran-wrapped to a banquet table. He never should have answered the phone. Stupid bleeding heart—helping others in his circles is a good way to get dead.

Just ask the gang members ripped to pieces by some kind of demonic nightmare in LA. As a favor to a friend, Yancy agrees to take a little looksee into the massacre and boom, he’s stuck in a turf war between two rival gangs, which both think he’s pinch-hitting for the other side. Oh, and there’s also a secretive ass-hat with some mean ol’ magical chops and a small army of hyena-faced, body-snatching baddies. It might be time to seriously reconsider some of his life choices.

Yancy is a bluesman, a rambler, a gambler, but not much more. Sure, he can do a little magic—maybe even more than just a little magic—but he knows enough to keep his head down and stay clear of freaky-deaky hoodoo like this business in LA. Somehow though, he’s been set up to take a real bad fall—the kind of very permanent fall that leaves a guy with a toe tag. Unless, of course, he can find out who is responsible for the gangland murders, make peace in the midst of the gang feud, and take out said magical ass-hat before he hexes Yancy into an early retirement. Easy right? Stupid. Bleeding. Heart.

I think the second one. The man in the picture stands out better.

In other news, did you know that there's a movie called "Strange Magic" from Lucasfilm coming out in a couple of months?

S.A. Hunt, thanks for the input--that's the one I'm leaning toward also, but my wife likes the one with less color saturation. As to the Lucasfilm, I was totally unaware, but I don't think it should be an issue, but thank you for the heads up.

Cover 2- both are excellent but the second one has better color contrast so the main figure stands out more.

I agree wholeheartedly--Cover 2! I love the pop of color. It catches my eye in a way the first one wouldn't.

Hey Adam! Sorry for the late reply, I don't check my AQC regularly. Wow! These look so amazing! I like two, though. I love the colors. Did you do it yourself? Such an amazing job!

Brenna,

Hey thanks for weighing in, sorry it took me so long to reply--Thanksgiving week is always crazy. As to the covers, no I had a cover designer whip them up, and glad I did. They look about a billion times cooler than anything I could've come up with. Hope all is going well.

I'm going to be the outlier that sides with your wife.

Both covers are stunning!  I'm leaning toward the first one as the muted colors give it a more mysterious feel, almost as if the figure, the setting, and the magic all contrast one another in space and time.  The bright colors of the second one do stand out, and say 'pick me! pick me!' but seem a teensy bit too flashy to my eyes.  Then again... I'm in desperate need of a new pair of glasses. :humph:

Kudos to the artist on both of them!

I like the first one better. The muted colors are more subtle and intriguing, IMO.

There's too much blood in my tea system. Time to put the kettle on.

Hey all,

Thank you so much for everyone's valuable input. Based on the comments, I've had the artist do a third cover: it is basically the first cover (more muted character and background) with the warm tones in the magic around the character warmed up (second cover). I like the mix, and think it gets the best of both worlds. Thanks again.

Very cool cover! Muted background with the added colours looks great!

Both are fantastic. I like the second one better.

I actually liked the first one better...but the third option is probably best!
