Thanks Bill!

My revised pitch: When a detective's daughter is kidnapped by a group of assassins, he must discover who, in a small town, killed one of their hitmen, in order to get his daughter back.

My revision says the same thing, essentially, but in fewer characters so that you can impart more info, plus leave room for the hashtags.

When a detective's daughter is kidnapped by assassins, he must track down who killed one of their hitmen to get her back. #pitmatch   131 characters

I think that's cleaner and leaves room for something else. Also remember, proper grammar is suspended for tweets in events.

Good luck!

I gave up trying to count the pitches today, but my estimate is 2000+. That's 2000 people all with a finished book looking to get a deal. It shows what we're up against. But those 2000+ people at least got their pitches looked at. Somebody put eyes on them, and that's all you can ask. But it's also why you need determination in this chosen profession.

Congrats to all who participated, let us know if you got any requests!

I'm so sad I missed #PItchMad by only 5 hours. Should have looked at this earlier.

Would love a critique on my pitch for next time though: A widowed, mentally ill, queer witch searches for love and sobriety from a fabulous Hollywood address.

I'm following you already. It was amazing to watch today. My thoughts on your pitch are that you need seem to be emphasizing her descriptors instead of her journey. It sounds quirky enough to work, I'm just thinking a slight re-arrangement might help. Are those three things what define her?

Didn't get any responses. A little disheartening that no agents were interested in the premise of my novel, but oh well.

Very, very few agents represent poetry. If you have a poetry collection, you are much better off submitting it to small presses, poetry competitions, or chapbook competitions (depending on the length). However, you should also try to get individual poems published in literary magazines first to give you street cred.

Start by sending your best poems to some top lit mags and go from there. Places to find lit mags:

www.newpages.com

www.pw.org

www.duotrope.com (They charge a fee.)

Good luck!

I know, that's the hard part about being a writer. When I started with my queries, I decided that my objective was to get to 200 No's as quickly as possible. Along the way I would change my query if it wasn't working, I would do all of the twitter events, I would do everything possible to get this book published. If, at that point, I still had no success, I would self-publish the damned thing and move on to the next project. It's all we can do.

So, apparently twitter pitches suggest using several different versions... hence I worked these up real quick just to get an idea of what can be done in tight space count. These should leave enough room for the #. Any thoughts or clues would be great. Got a while to perfect them, book probably won't be ready until mid-year.

Holy Cabal seeks to summon power of the gods for holy war only to unleash shadow demons bent on mankind’s destruction

Ivin seeks accord with the church to rescue miners in disputed territory, instead faces theocratic cabal out to conquer the clans

Shadow demons possess the bodies of men and feed on the living leaving two options: an ancient artifact or flee the island

The Shadows of Man kill, possess, and feed. Ivin must find a way to defeat them or lead his people to safety across the sea

Are these all 140 character pitches? If so, remember you have to leave room for the hashtags.

I'll critique them later, but each event has different rules. You should start by following Brenda Drake, the founder of #pitmad, and start there. I can't keep up with them all, but today I had four published authors judge and critique, in depth, my QL and first 250, and they really transformed it into something I love.

For example, here's the rules page for Friday's contest:

Thanks for the input! I will certainly take this into account and you're probably right, although that tweet did lead to a full request.

But I'm new at this and will rework it and come back. If you would like to post one I would be happy to help.

Thanks kid. I've actually gotten four at this point, and learned that while that's exciting, it doesn't mean much. Now, I'm ready to see you pitching on twitter. Is your query and MS ready to send out? Next event is Friday, not much time to get ready.

Bill is this supposed to be 35 words including the #pitmad, #YA #Fantasy?

Here is a couple :

Wandering the Astral Plane Arose finds her soul mate, but he betrays her by stealing the source of her powers. Now she must find it before the Netherworld’s demons are unleashed on the world.

A seer searches the Astral Plane for her soul mate, what she can’t see is that he will steal the mystic Fire Opal, and unleash Netherworld’s demons on the world.

Arose has a choice, either give up the mystic fire opal and allow demons to take over the world or keep it and fight a curse that will destroy a port town.

A dashing pirate has taken the source of Arose’s power, now she must find it before it falls into the hands of a voodoo priestess.
