Hi there,

I just got on this site finally after trying for an hour and half to get your registration question: "Hogwarts" correct. I don't understand how "Hogwarts' is a question and why the answer isn't Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. It finally took my friend who is not a writer and hasn't read all the Harry Potter suggesting that perhaps the answer was "Harry Potter," which it was.

I understand getting an agent is a difficult, capricious task. This Hogwarts thing took me an hour to figure out. Hogwarts was the one thing standing between me and an Agent Query account. I almost gave up.

If you want more writers to use your site, it would help if the registration question was phrased as a question, like "What book did Hogwarts occur in?" The simple phrase "Hogwarts" had me trying all of the different wizarding houses and pulling my hair out in frustration. I understand getting an agent isn't easy but simply getting on this site shouldn't be as hard as you are making it.

Many thanks for providing this service nevertheless. So glad I finally figured it out.

Lol, first thing I think about when I think about Hogwarts is Harry Potter. But I have read all the books, so maybe that's why. Though I do agree the registration question was a little odd, and most people don't think HP right off the bat. xD Welcome anyways!

I think this must be a new thing the site owner created to try and prevent spammers from joining. It's a constant battle to keep out spammers who create accounts, then spam our boards.   Hi Andrea,

I'm really glad you posted this topic.  I, too, spent at least half an hour entering every response I could think of before I finally gave up and ran a google search.  If you didn't provide the answer, I might still be trying to register!

Update:

AQCrew, bless their little hearts, messaged me and said that they had realized the registration question was a problem so were taking 10 suggestions for alternate answers. I gave them 10, including the 4 major houses and some of the staff of Hogwarts.

Hope this helps. Harry Potter shouldn't be the only thing standing between writers and a full Agent Query account as it must have been for many of us.

I once registered a site that had some crazy challenge. You had to go secure a point, hold it, then prove yourself. After being deemed worthy only then were you allowed inside.

We have added those ten suggestions.  Thanks for helping out on that front.

That's really interesting because there are like...15 possible answers now.  If you have a moment, private message us the 5 or 6 that you tried that didn't work.  We'd be curious to what you came up with that didn't unlock the key.

Haha, I love this thread. It would be helpful if there were actually a question! I thought "Hogwarts" was just a glitch, and that it wanted me to make up a question... So I tried that for a while :)

I had to google this and I found your response, otherwise I never would have been able to register. It would really make more sense if it were a question. I had absolutely no idea what wizard-related word I should enter...

Anyway, thanks for this thread!

Cheers a bunch for posting this. I had no idea 'Hogwarts' was even a question - thought it was broken, or a secret club.

I googled too and found your topic. That was nuts. I thought I was on publishing jeopardy. I typed in "What is Hermione Granger's School?"

Then, after reading this thread I typed in Hermione Granger and it didn't work. My first act on these boards is to suggest her as an answer.

I had to google and find this too after a day of beating my head against a wall.

Even if I were a Harry Potter superfan who knew all the factions, I might not have known how to spell them and I might not have known what they were asking.

I thought I was playing Jeopardy too and wrote "Where did Harry Potter attend school?"

Thankfully I found this post.

This is a really silly way to try to prevent spam.

Thanks for asking this after you figured it out! I'd still be thinking there's something wrong with my browser if you hadn't!

Having the question has stopped all of the spam posts though, and that's a good thing!

Amen to that! Since this thread was started in February I suppose it's safe to assume Hogwarts (the non-question) will not be changed. Thank goodness your comment was searchable - I nearly gave up.

I thought it was like a fill in the blank thing so my answers were " is a magical school" and " is not a question". It was so frustrating! As a new member I would have given up had i not found this thread. Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this! I don't think I would've gotten it as fast as I did if it weren't for your post. I agree with you - it was quite harrowing.
