Hi,

My debut novel Backwoods ripper is available for free for four days. In free kindle books, my ranking is number one in a number of categories. Is this usual when a book is free or should I be pleased?

Thanks

I'm not sure that I would say it's "usual." I think it really depends on how intensely niche your categories are. Either way I'd probably be pleased, though. Take a screen shot for posterity.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The categories I've had number one in are mystery, thriller suspense as well as psychological and action adventure. I feel like getting excited but then for all I know every free book on Kindle goes to number one.

I did take a screen shot

Those are pretty broad categories to be #1 in, so I'd be very happy. It's one thing to be #1 in Teen>Fantasy>Cats With Mustaches, it's another to be #1 in Teen>Fantasy, if you get what I mean. And no, not all free books go to #1. Think about how many free books there are, but there's only one #1 spot.

Thanks, Supergirl writes stuff.

The whole Amazon ranking thing is a mystery to me. It's nice to get some solid advice. Now I can give myself permission to be pleased
