Not on the very day of Christmas (though I'm guessing a few people do this), but around holiday season. I know most agents won't check their inbox, but it'll still be there once they do – the reply just might take longer.

Do you think it matters much?

I just started sending queries this week on the advice of a professional editor. She said December can be a good month because agents might have less going on. I've already heard back from two agents. Both passed, but hey, I'm just starting. I don't think you have anything to lose by sending queries this month, and so far, I've had quick responses. (Quick, but not the responses I'd like.) ;-(

You may want to check individual agent's status on their website or twitter. Some agents close for queries for various periods of time and won't consider material sent in that window. But if they aren't specifically closed, then yes, you're query will sit there until they've recovered from Christmas coma and/or New Years hangover.

Just expect to wait a while until the holiday season is over. I know my agent is taking a break/time off until 2017. I second Thrash's suggestion of making sure they aren't temporarily closed to queries.

You can, but as others have said, it's likely the query will sit there until Jan.

I know my agent won't submit stuff to editors/publishers at this time of year.
