You finish your rough draft on Christmas Day at 2am. Needless to say by the time I got home I was a bawling, blubbering mess haha. But I FINISHED IT!!!!!

Just wondering how you guys react to finishing a work, at any stage, be it rough draft or "final" copy.

Gonna be realer than I should in such a public forum, but I get fabulously drunk. It's the only way to---I dunno exactly how to explain it--burn off the energy, maybe? I always feel bizarre because it feels like I lie. Any time I say "I finished it" it feels like a lie. Or, at the very least, an exaggeration. Because of course it's not finished, I've just gotten to the end.

I sit back and savor the moment.  I can't help my mind wandering over the entire manuscript, touching on all the elements and feeling satisfied to have reached the final word.  I know the hardest part is upon me now.  No, not the editing part.  I'm talking about the tremendous effort it takes to put that manuscript aside and let it sit for several weeks before I open it up and begin the task of editing.

Let there be light on this planet ... And let it shine through me
Let there be travellers who venture ... Far from the beaten path
And let one of them be me - Jefferson Starship - Champion (unused lyrics)
