I am composing a query for a new book that I've just finished. It's a fiction romance novel. HOWEVER, two years ago, I achieved representation by a sizeable independent agent for another work. The agent to date has been unable to secure a publisher. Technically the book is still in the market.
Should I mention in my query letter, for my new fiction book, that I achieved representation for another book? - Or is it better to keep that under the hat until I get an offer from a new agent.
I can see on the one hand it makes me look credible that I got 'half-way there' once. But wont agents be concerned that I'll turn around and give my existing agent first refusal on the new book, if they show interest?
