Hi everyone!

I recently completed book one of my fantasy trilogy, and have begun to send out query letters to agents. An agent I queried by email just a few days ago sent me a rejection letter this morning. It wasn't the usual form rejection. It was actually the nicest rejection I've received yet! She sent me a personal reply and some links for me to try and connect with an agent. This site was on her list! So here I am, and I'm so happy to be here. What a great resource!

I haven't seen any other Canadians on the site yet. (If you're out there, give me a shout, eh?)

I have a question: is it fairly common for Canadians to have American agents? The thing is: there are very few literary agents in Canada, and of those few, only a very small percentage will represent fantasy. So, all three of them have rejected me already. I'm wondering if I should be looking to the States or even the UK for an agent?

Any thoughts or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

They're definitely here. Several Canadians. Not me personally, but I know they're here. Lurking. Just waiting to pounce. And then apologize for knocking you into the snow ;-)

I believe many Canadian authors have U.S. based agents. Some may have U.K. as well. It really doesn't matter, so query away!

Lol! Thanks, mwsinclair! That's good to know ;)

Thank you, Ireth, for the very Canadian welcome! Bearing poutine, no less - I love it! :D

And thank you, LucidDreamer, for your helpful feedback. I'm polishing up my query letter as we speak - with the help of the Query Shark's archives (she's so brilliant!) Agents outside of Canada: here I come!
