I've seen many agents get turned off with "genre mixing". But is something like Paranormal Mystery considered that or is it considered a sub-genre? If it is mixing, is it best to market that book as Horror? Please, let me know your thoughts!

I feel like most things I see in paranormal are labeled as "paranormal ___", like "paranormal romance" or "paranormal thriller" or "paranormal mystery". So I think you're safe. Genre mixing becomes risky of putting things together that don't work, like a sci-fi historical fiction, or especially blending too many, like a fantasy romance mystery with comedic undertones. Those sorts of things suggest that your story might be too sprawling or that you don't have a good grasp of what you've written.

Nothing to reciprocate on right now; I'm off in the query trenches.

From what I've seen, that's a safe genre combination. Carina Press is actively seeking paranormal mystery, so that has to mean something.

Paranormal mystery is safe. I consider it a subgenre.

That is considered an accepted subgenre -- of either paranormal or mystery.
