If you have some great marketing resources (books, links, tips, articles, etc.) add 'em here!

I mentioned a few of the things from this article over in the nonfiction group, but while doing some tab cleanup in my browser, I came across this article again and figured, dang, it is so good, I'll post the whole thing (link) here for those who are looking at some marketing for their work.

I just ordered a book on social media and marketing. I'll let you know if it is helpful. It is by Chris Brogan, so I'm pretty sure it will be!

I haven't had time to dig into this blog yet, but it was recommended by an editor during a Twitter chat, and it looks pretty good: Shrinking Violet Promotions: Marketing for Introverts

(Of course, I *would* say that, being an introvert and all. )

They have a lot of useful material on there. Still not sure it helps get one past being introverted, but lots to try.
Why shouldn't truth be stranger than fiction? Fiction, after all, has to make sense.

This book looks interesting. Anyone read it? Tricked out Toolbox Promotion and Marketing Every Writer Needs.

The Chris Brogan book was okay: Social Media 101.

I've also found Likeable Media to be helpful as well as books on online marketing (Twitter and Facebook).

Some general things I've learned: be transparent, authentic, listen, have conversations, don't sell all the time.

Interesting article interviewing Amanda Hocking on how authors tend to over market. Definitely rings true, especially on social media!

Great post from QueryTracker.net on writing press releases! It's an important (and very different skill) to master if you're handling most of your own marketing.

I stumbled across a book from 2004 called "The Frugal Book Promoter: How to Do What Your Publisher Won't or Nitty-Gritty How-Tos for Getting Nearly Free Publicity" by Carolyn Howard-Johnson. (The first time I've ever seen a book with a subtitle and subsubtitle!) This book has, within its nearly 300 pages, lots of good tips.

I bought a used copy for around $5 from amazon.com here:
http://www.amazon.co...l Book Promoter

Wow! I just noticed that there's a 2011 edition. I wonder if the author added more stuff? Here's the link for the new one:

I read Tricked Out Toolbox and it had some good tips. It didn't go into a ton of depth, but it gave me some springboard ideas.

Marie Forleo has some great business videos on YouTube and her website (Marie TV) where she answers marketing-type questions, etc. and they have been good. Fun too!

I'm just about done Christine Katz's Get Known Before the Book Deal which is about building your platform to help you get published (nonfiction types, but also helpful for fiction writers). While it is about building your platform, it has some great things in there such as how to submit to magazines, how to write a motto/tagline, etc., what to put on your author website, etc. Lots of info.
