I'm currently in the brainstorming phase of a new YA idea, and perhaps the last thing I should be thinking about right now is the marketabiltiy of said idea, but it's on my mind. My question: is there much of a market for YA humor (from new writers)?

I think there are always readers who enjoy humor. YA gets a bit trickier, as kids mature and develop. Potty humor doesn't work. It is more subtle and more subjective, which can make it tricky, but in the end, readers of all ages can appreciate a well written story with humor.

Best luck~

Thanks, Cat! I was hoping you'd drop some wisdom on me. :)

I should have been more specific- by humor, I mean, something more in the vein of Sherman Alexie (I could only dream of writing that beautifully). Nothing slapstick or "potty" humor...more situational, if that makes sense.

Go for it!

And, we're neighbors. I live in MN, though the western side of the state.

Hugs and best luck~

North or south? I'm thirty minutes north of I-90...four hours from La Crosse.

Are you an SCBWI member? Minneapolis hosts a fall conference each year, while Bettendorf, IA, hosts a fabulous weekend long conference each spring. I'm to attend the one in April.

West-central. About 40 min. east of Hudson. *cue mysterious music* I live in the same town as Neil Gaiman! :)

I'm not a member of SCBWI, but it sounds like I should join!
