This has been asked a few times and never quite laid out step-by-step in a (hopefully) foolproof manner, so hopefully this helps.

First of all, you need the address you want the book cover (or other image) to link to when users click it. The Amazon page for your book, the Goodreads page, your own website, whatever. This is URL #1.

You also need to have a link to the image somewhere on the internet. You want it to be fairly small even for a thumbnail, because if all of your posts end with a bunch of big graphics taking up more space than the post itself, people are going to get annoyed with you. If you have your own webpage, you may upload your images there and link to them, or you can use a service like PhotoBucket. Make sure you grab the URL (address) of the image. It should start with http:// and end with something like .gif or .jpg. This is URL #2.

You need to get to your signature settings. Go to the drop-down menu at the top right of the page (with your AQC name), and select My Settings. On the screen that comes up, there are tabs going down the side. Select Signature.

Type in whatever text you want to appear within the signature. I suggest keeping it brief. Again, anytime you post in a forum thread, people are going to have to scroll past this every time one of your posts shows up. Be effective and efficient.

The easiest way I can figure to explain creating this link without any chance of mistakes is to do it using code. So within the editing window, just above the buttons for bold, italic, etc. there's a little light-switch icon. Click that to toggle editing mode. All the other buttons (like bold, italic, etc.) will now be grayed out.

In the place where you want the linked image, type the following, CHANGING < and > to SQUARE brackets!

<url="URL #1 HERE">URL #2 HERE

Make sure your URLs include the "http://" and everything.

Click Save Changes when you're done.

If you have questions/problems, post here and I'll try to clear up the process.

Hard to tell from my phone, but it looks like you got the order reversed. It should be the URL= part first, then the img part. Plus the extra codes in there for color and bolding for some reason. Also, make sure you followed the step to click the button that toggles editing mode.

Replied in a PM to jwm, but for anyone else who wonders ...

You need to make sure to actually resize the image (not just zoom out and make it LOOK small). You can do that through the tools on some sites like Photobucket, or in Photoshop, Gimp, etc. And you'll need to make sure you're at 100% zoom to see the true size of the image. For the purposes of a signature here, 100 pixels wide is probably more than enough. 60-80 pixels wide is probably more like it. Then make sure you save that version of the image (under a different name, like CoverImageThumbnail or something).

The ones in my signature are 60 pixels wide and are still on the large side.

I can't seem to figure this out. Why does my signature look like it looks now?
Sorry if I'm doing a dumb mistake. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Harneet

Update-
Finally figured it out.
1. Upload image to Photobucket. Now click on share, click on links and copy the direct link.
2. Click on image switch next to hyperlink switch.
3. Add the direct link.
4. Image gets added to the signature.
5. Click on the image, then click on hyperlink switch, add the link to amazon or iBooks or wherever you like.
6. Save changes and you're done.

Hope this helps.

Harneet

I can't get mine to work. I tried the toolbar, and the very confusing instructions. In fact, none of my links other than my website work. They appear as text no matter how I format them

Bumping...

Thanks! This post was a lifeline. I uploaded my images to photobucket, then used the image button to add the image, then selected the image and used the link button to add the link. Be sure to let me know if my image is large enough to be annoying.

The URL #1 would be my facebook web address? And the URL #2 I got from the pictures under properties on my facebook page, but it doesn't end with jpg or gif. It ends with letters.

So confused???

The picture needs to be hosted on a site that makes the photo file available directly, so I'm not sure whether Facebook would work (and I'm on my phone so I can't check now).

Also, any photo you have on Facebook would likely be too big. It's generally easier if it's already sized down.
