shrunk my MS's word count from 96K to 79K. *sigh*
The word "that" is kind of like a support column in the middle of a room: sometimes it provides important structure and support, but mostly you just run into it wondering what it's doing there.
DarkeHahahaha! Agreed, along with the word 'had'.

SnowGlobeI went through my MS and stripped out half the "that" and "but" in it. I was shocked how many there were.

I don't see any YA urban or paranormal queries getting accepted by agents anymore. Does that mean those genres are out this year!? Hope not because that is what I write!!!
Cheryl B. DaleIt may be the agents are just getting pickier about what they DO accept because the number of books being published by the big pubs seems a lot fewer nowadays. If your story is great and your writing is up to par, it should get requests no matter what genre it is. Remember, different genres' popularity always have peaks and valleys. Don't get discouraged!

SnowGlobeEven if they are out this year, it takes longer than a year to get through this process in any case, so chin up.

Haven't been on lately. I feel like I've been neglecting my query writing duties.
I don't know how to do this thing.
DarkeWhat are you having problems with?

J. Lea Lopez
Hey writers... would you submit steamy scenes to be publicly critiqued? You could be anonymous. But you'd get free feedback and I'd get blog material. Would anyone be interested in that sort of thing? *just thinking out loud, I don't have anything set up yet*
DarkeHeh, that sounds good. :D

SnowGlobeI put one in that was sort of on the border. It actually didn't involve touching at all, so I guess it doesn't count as actual steaminess. Anyway, there are romance writers on here. Maybe, if you are concerned that it will be disapproved of, try getting their feeedback directly.

J. Lea LopezOh no, I'm actually asking who would be interested if I offered something like this on my web site. :-)

My full request finally came back as a rejection, but it means I can close out that project and put everything I have into my current WIP!
JR WirthGood luck!

ThrashI'm about to be in that boat. I have lots of submissions on it--but the most I'm even really hoping for is personal responses that may give me insight. Remember a shelved book is not a wasted book!

Two years ago I wrote a quote, and I just came up with a story to incorporate it in! Yay!
